Management of Choking in Individuals Over One-Year-Old

  • For conscious choking victims (children and adults), administer the Heimlich maneuver.
  • Stand behind the person; for small children, kneel or prepare to lift them from behind.
  • Encircle the person's upper abdomen with your arms, positioning your fist between the navel and rib cage.
  • Grasp your fist with your other hand and perform firm, upward thrusts.
  • The objective is to create sufficient pressure to eject the airway obstruction.
  • Execute forceful diaphragmatic thrusts until the blockage is expelled.
  • Prioritize efficacy over caution, with strong, assertive movements to promptly clear the obstruction, considering the critical nature of airway clearance.
